The CPAP / PEEP setting increases the lower pressure level during
spontaneous breathing. This results in an increase in the functional
residual capacity of spontaneously-breathing patients. The patient
is able to breathe spontaneously without any restriction at the set
pressure level. The CPAP mode is used exclusively on patients with
adequate spontaneous breathing.
The pressure is generally set at the end of expiration (PEEP).
