6 Commissioning

6.1 Preliminary considerations

Uncontrolled activated processes!
The system in which the device is integrated can be damaged.
Before commissioning, ensure that all processes are executed in a controlled way.
f
These instructions contain all important information for operating the ID 200/C-PDP
communication module with the PROFIBUS DP. Due to the wide range of options
available during field bus planning with PROFIBUS, it is not possible to make general
statements which apply to all situations for commissioning.
One important aspect for operating an extensive identification system on the
PROFIBUS DP is the time behavior of the entire system. The question "How long
does it take for the read data to be available in the computer or the PLC after the
positioning of a data carrier by a write/read station?" depends on a number of
different factors.
The most important factors which determine the time behavior are:
• The type of superordinate host system, e.g. PLC or PC
• Communication between the client and server
• Network utilization
• Number and type of connected antennas
• Mobile data carriers MDT used
• Type of commands to the antenna
• Structure of the user program
If you are planning large projects or are planning a PROFIBUS DP system for the first
time, we recommend making a lab fixture of your application before the installation
in the system. Test the data transmission to the PROFIBUS DP master or the host
system on this lab fixture.
Planning tools are available, which enable PROFIBUS DP users to plan and
commission a network without detailed knowledge of the underlying
communication processes.
The system software of programmable logic controls with PROFIBUS DP
communication processor often offers relevant bus configuration and
management options.
