Diagnose Charging Circuit

NOTE: For circuit information, see "Charging Circuit

Diagnostic Checks
• Inspect electrical
connectors and
harness wires for
loose or damaged
connections.
Are all electrical
connectors and wiring
in working condition?
• Check that battery is
fully charged.
• Inspect battery cables
for loose or corroded
connections.
Is battery fully charged
and are cables properly
secured to battery
terminals?
• Check charging
system. See
"Charging System
Check" on page 6-17.
• During system check,
adjust the throttle from
low to high idle.
Is battery voltage
within 12.5—15.0 volts?
• Check power circuit.
See "Diagnose Power
Circuit" on page 6-28.
Is power circuit
functioning properly?
• Check stator output.
See "Stator Output
Test" on page 6-27.
Is stator output at least
28 volts?
Z400 Series
Results
YES: Go to next check.
NO:
Repair or replace
electrical
connectors and
wiring harnesses
as necessary.
YES: Go to next check.
NO:
Charge battery.
Replace battery as
necessary.
NO:
Repair or replace
battery cables as
necessary.
YES: Go to next check.
NO:
Replace battery.
NO:
Check and replace
fuses as
necessary.
YES: Go to next check.
NO:
Repair circuit as
necessary.
YES: Checks complete.

Check flywheel
magnets. See
