Troubleshooting Guide

Symptom
I
The RS232 Interface appears to
not be working at all and the
Power LED is OFF.
II
The RS232 Interface does not
communicate with the Host.
III
RS232 Interface reacts to Host
commands but there is no
feedback from RS232 Interface
IV
Data flows between the Host
and the RS232 Interface, but the
system does not respond.
V
Data flows between the Host
and the RS232 Interface, but the
system does not respond as
desired (i.e. Shade activity
instead of Light activity)

Possible Cause
Loss of power.
Faulty power supply.
Communication cable is miswired.
Loose communications cable.
Data flow control settings for the
two devices are not the same.
Improper communications
settings (Baud Rate, # Data bits,
etc...).
Host has not received "Prompt"
from RS232 Interface (SW flow
control only).
Loose Receive line in
communications cable.
RB mode is turned OFF.
RS232 Interface out of range.
Zones not configured properly.
RS232 Interface is in
configuration mode.
Rest of system does not have
power.
RTA-RS232 Zones not configured
properly
Remedy
Check circuit breaker.
Check connection at unit.
Verify power supply is operating properly.
Verify the pinout on the cable, rewire if
necessary.
Check cable connections.
Check the data flow control settings for
both devices. Make sure both are set to
desired setting.
Check the communications settings on the
Host and verify they comply with the
RS232 Interface requirements.
Have host issue "PING" command. This
will kickstart data flow.
Check connections on communications
cable.
Turn RB mode ON.
Verify RS232 Interface is within 35 feet of
all RadioTouch
RF Controllers.

Verify zones are configured for proper
zone type (Lights, Shades, Closures)
Exit configuration mode.
Apply power to rest of system.
Verify zones are configured for proper
zone type (Lights, Shades, Closures).
