Promed IT-6 electrical stimulator is a portable electrotherapy device fea-
turing two therapeutic modes: Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation
DE
(TENS), and Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), which are used for pain
relief and electrical muscle stimulation. The device is used for the rehabilita-
tion of incontinence, weakness of the perineal muscles and for pain relief.
EN
By using this device regularly, you can strengthen your pelvic floor muscles
significantly, and the improvement of your muscle function will help you to
live your life again free of stress, urge mixed or faecal incontinence. The
FR
stimulation device transmits via electrodes that are applied to the skin or
lighten the electrical current to underlying nerves and muscles on the intro-
duced vaginal-anal probe. The parameters of the device are controlled by
IT
the press buttons. The intensity level is adjustable according to the needs of
patients. Before using, please read all the instructions in this user manual
ES
carefully and keep it safe for future reference.
What is pain?
Pain is the body's own early warning system. Feeling pain is important, as
NL
it indicates an abnormal condition within the body and serves as a warning
to us before any further damage or injury occurs. However, long-term,
persistent pains – often known as chronic pain – serve no obvious useful
RU
purpose once a diagnosis has been made. TENS was developed to soothe
or eliminate certain types of chronic and acute pain.
PL
We differentiate between two types of pain:
Acute pain
SE
as a chief symptom can often help the doctor with diagnosis and the
acute pain has a protective function for the patient.
• Chronic pain
FI
can often become part of the illness in itself. A patient suffering from
chronic pain will often suffer for years and experiences changes in his/
her personality structure.
What is TENS?
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive, drug
free method of controlling pain. TENS uses tiny electrical impulses sent
through the skin to nerves to modify your pain perception. TENS does not
cure any physiological problem; it only helps control the pain. TENS does
not work for everyone; however, in most patients it is effective in reducing or
eliminating the pain, allowing for a return to normal activity.
How does TENS work?
Das Promed IT-6 transmits harmless electrical signals into the body by
the self-adhesive electrodes or the vaginal / anal probe. This relieves pain
in two ways:
• Firstly, it blocks the body's pain signals which are normally
transmitted from the area of damage through the nerve fibres to the
brain - TENS interrupts these pain signals.
• Secondly, TENS stimulates the body's production of endorphins – its
own natural painkillers.
Possible TENS applications
Generally the Promed IT-6 shall be used for the following medical
indications or the following complaints as a TENS unit for treatment:
• For symptomatic relief of chronic intractable pain
• For post traumatic pain (acute pain occurring)
• For post surgical pain (pain caused by surgery)
What is EMS?
Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is an internationally accepted and proven
way of treating muscular injuries. It works by sending electronic pulses to the
muscle needing treatment; this causes the muscle to exercise passively. It is a
product derived from the square waveform, originally invented by John
Faraday in 1831. Through the square wave pattern it is able to work directly
on muscle motor neurons. This device has low frequency and in conjunction
