18.5.2 NOAA Weather Alert Test

NOAA tests the alert system every Wednesday between 11AM and 1PM. To test the
CPV550's NOAA Weather alert feature, on Wednesday between 11AM and 1PM, setup as
in previous section and confirm the alert is heard.

18.5.3 Customizing NOAA Weather Alert

This menu selection allows you customize the NOAA Weather alert function. Default setting
is On.
1. From the chart page, press the [MENU] key two times. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to
highlight RADIO SETUP and press [ENT] or move the ShuttlePoint knob to the right.
2. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight VHF SETTINGS and press [ENT] or move the
ShuttlePoint knob to the right.
3. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to highlight WX ALERT and press [ENT] or move the
ShuttlePoint knob to the right.
4. Move the ShuttlePoint knob to select the desired WX alert mode. The WX alert mode
can be set to:
On SCAN –
On WX –
On SCAN/WX – the CPV550 will only alert when a receiving channel is programmed
Off –
5. Press [ENT] or move the ShuttlePoint to the right to store the selected setting.
6. Press [CLR] until the menu disappears or an easier method is to move the ShuttlePoint
knob to the left a few times.

EMERGENCY CHANNEL (CHANNEL 16 USE)

Channel 16 is known as the Hail and Distress Channel. An emergency is defined as a threat
to life or property. In such instances, be sure the transceiver is on and set to CHANNEL 16.
