3.2 Activating/deactivating the E-MAG Active
CAUTION
Risk of falling
Missing signals during activation indicate a failure of the E-MAG Active. Remove the battery immediately and then
reinsert. Please contact your specialist workshop immediately if the error occurs again.
INFORMATION
Failure to unlock the knee joint for more than one hour automatically causes the control electronics to switch to
stand-by mode. To reactivate the system, simply push the top button on the control electronics.
Activation is performed by inserting the battery. Every time the E-MAG Active is activated, the electronic control
unit runs a short self-test that emits the following signals:
Signal
System ready > Knee joint
locked
System not ready > Knee
joint flexed (open)
When the E-MAG Active is flexed, the tone-pause-tone series is emitted as a warning signal until the E-MAG Active
is extended/locked. Deactivation is performed by removing the battery.

4 Operation

This section explains how to operate the knee joint control unit by button and tells you about the warnings used by
the feedback system of the E-MAG Active to inform you of malfunctions.

4.1 Control unit

CAUTION
Risk of falling due to unlocking / locking
Both permanent and one-time unlocking as well as permanent locking of the system can result in an elevated risk
of falling. The patient should not use these functions whilst walking.
The electronic control unit measures the position of the orthosis while walking. It unlocks the joint before toe-off
and locks it prior to heel strike at the end of the swing phase, so that the patient can step down safely. Your ortho
paedic technician adapted the electronic control unit of the E-MAG Active to your needs during the first trial fitting.
Two manual switching possibilities are available to you to give you full control over the E-MAG Active (see fig. 2):
