Chapter 7: Maintenance and Care of the TubeSpec
The sponge should remain relatively the same size, but if it is shredded, replace it. Shredding can occur
if the sponge is pinched under the bearing or scraper during assembly.
Use caution during assembly not to pinch the sponge when closing the oiler on the tubing.
The scraper (part number 27) has a spring that applies continuous circumferential force. This part
becomes unserviceable when the spring can no longer close the scraper onto the tubing.

Lube Tank Kit Maintenance and Safety Practices

Inspect the lube tank kit monthly for signs of corrosion and for physical damage to the tank, as well as to
all accessories.
Also, monthly inspect the oil return filter bag (see item #5 in Parts for Lube Tank Kit (Including Pneumatic
Pump) ). Empty sand, dirt, and rust particles from the filter; then clean the filter with a standard detergent.
If the filter is damaged by punctures or tears, it should be replaced. Inspect the contents of the tank while
the filter panel is off. If there is an excess of water or a build-up of algae, drain the oil and clean the inside
of the tank to remove the algae. When all water and algae have been removed, the tank can be refilled with
clean oil.
Also on a monthly basis, check the inline air lubricator for the presence of oil (see item #7 in Parts for Lube
Tank Kit (Including Pneumatic Pump) ). Replace, or add 10W-30 oil to the container only when adhering
to the disconnect warning below. Additionally, regularly drain the primary inline filter (item #12) of all
water.
Replace all labels, including warning and identification labels, if they become illegible and/or unclear.
Ensure that the pressure source is disconnected and that pressure is carefully
discharged from the pump before removing any part of the pump for maintenance purposes.

Acoustic Gel Application

Each time the TubeSpec is mounted or calibrated, apply acoustic gel (see Applying Acoustic Gel) between
the opaque cream-colored packer elements and the faces of the ultrasonic probes.
If the acoustic gel is not present, the TubeSpec functions improperly.
If the TubeSpec measuring head remains mounted on the level wind and is not disassembled for routine main-
tenance for an extended time period, it may be necessary to remove the head, disassemble, and reapply acous-
tic gel to the probe/packer interface to restore proper operation.
