Chapter 4: Argus TubeSpec Setup

Powering Up the TubeSpec

To power-up the TubeSpec
1. Turn ON the Argus TubeSpec control box from the switch on the enclosure door.
2. Start the OrionNET software, and ensure that communication between the Argus TubeSpec control
box and the OrionNET software is occurring.

Pre-testing on the Ground prior to Mounting

To pre-test the unit
1. Connect the packer pressure hose to the TubeSpec measuring head.
2. Apply a thin coat of acoustic gel to the outside of a straight sample of customer-supplied coiled tubing
(1.5 ft. to 2.0 ft. in length).
3. Loosen the four lugnuts that clamp the sensor ring together.
4. Insert the coiled tubing sample into the TubeSpec measuring head.
5. Tighten the four lugnuts that clamp the sensor ring together.
6. Gradually increase the packer pressure to the recommended value for the given coiled tubing size.
Hydraulic circuit pressure for the TubeSpec should never exceed 1,200 PSI. The ultrasonic probes may be
damaged if hydraulic pressures exceed recommended levels.
7. Verify that the proximity-probe voltages are stable; these should read 5,000 mV + 100 mV. If needed,
perform the proximity-probe adjustment procedure described in Adjust the proximity probes.
8. If the user has performed a proximity-probe adjustment, a proximity-offset calibration must
also be completed (see Calibrating the TubeSpec for information concerning calibration using the
proximity-offset method). Verify that data values for Min, Max, and Average wall, diameter, and signal
strength display as expected. If values appear as normal, proceed to the next step; otherwise, contact
NOV CTES for assistance (see Contact Us for information).
9. Release the packer pressure and disconnect the packer-pressure hydraulic hose.
10. Remove the coiled tubing sample from the measuring head.
The unit is now prepared and ready to mount on the coiled tubing.
