Chapter 5: Mounting the TubeSpec on Coiled Tubing
b. Also ensure that the scraper ring is facing the reel when the oiler assembly is closed around the
tubing.
When the other oiler assembly is installed and all items are in place, each blue scraper ring is visible from the
outside of the unit, but the sponges are not visible.
8. Slide the oiler assembly to a point approximately 12" to 18" outside the mounting cradle, so that it is
out of the way when the measuring head is slid into place.
9. Loosen the four measuring-head clamp lugnuts and open the measuring head to expose the packer ele-
ments.
10. Install the TubeSpec over the top of the tubing with the measuring-head halves opened just in front of
the mounting cradle, the pistons facing the injector, and the proximity probes facing the reel.
11. Close the measuring-head halves and hand-tighten the clamp lugnuts while ensuring that the alignment
pins allow the measuring head to close.
It is easier to slide the measuring head back into the mounting cradle if the measuring head's halves are not
completely closed.
12. Remove the mounting blocks by unscrewing the four socket head-cap screws using the 5/16" Allen
wrench.
13. Slide the measuring head into place so that the side-mounting post fits into the mounting blocks in the
mounting cradle.
14. Tighten the four TubeSpec head-clamp lugnuts to 10 ft lbs of torque.
15. Replace the mounting blocks and tighten the four socket head-cap screws using the 5/16" Allen
wrench.
16. Install the second oiler assembly in an identical manner as the first, but with the scraper facing the
injector.
17. Lift the bottom cover into place and hook the strike latches onto the shoulder bolts protruding from the
side rails. Move the oiler assemblies as the bottom cover is raised so that the grooves on the outside of
the oiler assemblies align with the large semicircular cut-out on the bottom cover. The latches have a
slight bend in them to allow their passing around the side rail.
18. Put the top cover in place, ensuring that the label indicating 'Reel' is pointing toward the reel. As the
top cover is lowered, check the oiler assemblies to ensure that the grooves on the outside of the oiler
assemblies still align with the large, semicircular cut-out on the top cover. Ensure that the latches hang-
ing from the sides stay on the outside of the strike latch.
Check the oiler-assembly alignment at each step to ensure that it is enclosed within the circular cut-out of the
top and bottom covers.
Ensure that the elbow fitting at the top of the oiler is positioned between the 1/4" dowel pins that extend out-
ward 2 inches. This will keep the oiler from rotating during operation.
