Chapter 4: Argus TubeSpec Setup

Safety and Environmental Information

The Argus TubeSpec is installed at the level wind of the coiled tubing reel. This activity requires that the
installer work at a significant height on a ladder or other structure.
Please follow standard safety procedures for working at heights.
Argus TubeSpec Installed at the Level Wind
The TubeSpec scrapes water, oil, rust, and dirt from the coiled tubing. The provided drip-pan catches run-
off, which runs down through a hose.
Attach the drain hose from the drip pan to the return spout on the lube tank. When oil is determined to be
no longer serviceable, dispose of it in a manner that adheres to state and Federal environmental regulations.

Acoustic Gel Application

Each time the TubeSpec is mounted or calibrated, apply acoustic gel (see Applying Acoustic Gel) between
the opaque cream-colored packer elements and the faces of the ultrasonic probes.
If the acoustic gel is not present, the TubeSpec functions improperly.
If the TubeSpec measuring head remains mounted on the level wind and is not disassembled for routine main-
tenance for an extended time period, it may be necessary to remove the head, disassemble, and reapply acous-
tic gel to the probe/packer interface to restore proper operation.
