Pre-job Setup

The pre-job setup is described in the following sections.

Applying Acoustic Gel

To apply acoustic gel
1. Loosen the four TubeSpec head-clamp lugnuts and open the measuring head to expose the packer
elements.
2. Remove the guide rings and the packer elements and apply acoustic gel to the ultrasonic-probe
sensor faces in the measuring head.
3. Return the parts to the measuring head in the reverse order from that in which they were removed.
4. Close the measuring head and tighten the four lugnuts on the sensor ring.
See Step 1. for complete information concerning the procedure involved in applying acoustic gel.

Connecting Cables

To connect cables
1. As described in The TubeSpec Measuring Head, the measuring head has two cable connections,
located on opposing sides of the measuring head, by which connection to the DSP control box is
established. Each cable-connection is sensor-specific, and is color-coded black/red to correspond
with the associated DSP connection. Connect each DSP cable connector to its respectively color-
coded measuring-head connector:
a. Align the red dot on each cable connector with the red dash on each (color-coded red or black)
measuring-head connector.
b. Insert the male DSP cable-connectors into the female measuring-head connectors. The connec-
tions should join smoothly with little effort. To prevent damage, do not force the connections
together.
To remove the connected cable from the measuring head, pull the quick-release on the connector body
toward the cable. (This operates similarly to a hydraulic quick-connect fitting.)
2. Connect the four-pin cable from the power connector on the TubeSpec control box to the 24V
power source.
3. Connect a seven-pin cable from the TubeSpec data connector on the TubeSpec control box to the
PC's serial port with the [appropriate] supplied cable.
4. Connect the lube-tank cables and encoder cable.
