Replacing engine control unit

Note:
When the connector is unplugged from the
engine control unit, the values are erased; the
contents of the fault memory are retained.
Removing
-
Switch off the ignition.
-
Remove cover of plenum chamber ⇒ Body
Removal and Fitting Work, Repair Group 66.
Note:
♦ It is not necessary to remove the control unit
in order to connect the test box V.A.G 1598/
22 (for testing parts).
-
Unlock the connector to the engine control
unit and separate connector.
K -
Use a screwdriver to push the catch on both
sides to the side and pull out the engine
control unit.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Notes:
♦ During the initial phase of reading the
memory during basic setting of the engine,
slightly irregular idling and slight jolts when
driving are possible.
♦ Carry out the following steps after installing
the engine control unit:

Perform basic setting of the new engine
control unit ⇒ page 24-10.
-
Adapt engine control unit to the electronic
immobiliser ⇒ page 24-40.
