Possible cause of fault
1)
♦ Open circuit in wiring or short circuit to
intake air temperature sender
1)
♦ Intake air temperature sender faulty
♦ Alternator faulty, battery severely
discharged
♦ Heavy load on electrical circuit shortly after
starting as a result of high charge current
and ancillaries
♦ Contact resistance in voltage supply or
earth connection for engine control unit
♦ Power drain when ignition off
♦ Voltage regulator at alternator faulty
♦ Overvoltage caused by jump-starting or
quick-charger
♦ Coolant temperature sender or cable
connection to engine control unit faulty
♦ Radiator dirty
♦ Radiator fan not operating
♦ Coolant thermostat faulty
♦ Engine too cold
♦ Coolant temperature sender or cable
connection to engine control unit faulty
♦ Coolant thermostat always open
♦ Air filter soiled or air supply blocked
♦ Unmetered air
Self-Diagnosis
- Test cable to sender for open circuit and
- Test intake air temperature sender
- Test voltage, charge battery
- Increase engine speed slightly for a few
- Test voltage supply for engine control unit
- Eliminate power drain
- Test voltage, replace regulator if necessary
- Interrogate fault memory ⇒ page 01-4
- Test coolant temperature sender -G62
- Clean radiator
- Test operation of radiator fan
- Test thermostat
- Warm up engine
