Notes:
♦ Before carrying out repairs or fault finding,
first of all interrogate the fault memory and
also inspect the vacuum hoses and connecti-
ons (unmetered air).
♦ Components marked with * are tested by self-
diagnosis.
⇒ page 01-4, Interrogating fault memory
♦ Components marked with ** can be tested with
the final control diagnosis ⇒ page 01-12.
♦ A voltage of at least 11.5 V is required for
proper operation of the electrical compo-
nents.
♦ If the engine starts only for a short time and
then cuts out again after carrying out
troubleshooting, repairs or tests of compo-
nents, the cause of this may be that the
immobiliser has blocked the engine control
unit. In this case, interrogate the fault memory
and adapt the control unit, if necessary
⇒ page 24-40.
♦ When conducting certain tests it is possible
that the control unit detects a fault and stores
it. For this reason, after completing all the
tests and repair work, interrogate the fault
memory and erase it, if necessary ⇒ page
01-4, Interrogating fault memory.
♦ Always replace clamp-type clips with screw-
type clips.
Safety precautions ⇒ page 24-9.
Rules for cleanliness ⇒ page 24-9.

Inspecting intake system for leaks (unmetered
