Fuel Preparation/Fuel Injection
♦ The probe has been damaged by contact
spray or a similar product (contact spray has
got into the probe along the cables as a result
of temperature changes and the capillary
effect of the holes).
♦ The probe has been damaged by silicone
vapours. (If sealing products containing
silicone are used, traces of the silicone
elements are inducted by the engine.
Inducted silicone elements are not combus-
ted and damage the lambda probe).
♦ The probe has been damaged by oil compo-
nents of the oil (escapes through crankcase
breather or the result of leaks in the engine).
Special tools, testers and aids required
♦ Vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable
V.A.G 1551/3
♦ Test box V.A.G 1598/22
♦ Hand-held multimeter, e.g. V.A.G 1526 A or
multimeter V.A.G 1715
♦ Adapter cable set V.A.G 1594 A
♦ Current flow diagram
Test conditions
l Basic setting o.k.
l No leak in exhaust system between catalytic
converter and cylinder head
Test procedure
- Connect vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552
and select engine electronics control unit with
the address word 01. The engine should be
running at idling speed for this step.

- Press keys 0 and 8 for the function "Read
measured value block" and confirm the entry
with the key Q.
