5.7: Replacing Printing Ribbon
Removing Old Ribbon
1. Pause unit operation (Press WAIT button on control panel). Never insert fingers into an
operating unit.
2. Remove the retainer from each spool by turning retaining knob counter clockwise (Refer to
Figure 5-2.) .
3. Remove the full core from the take-up spool and discard. Remove the empty core from the
supply spool, and save for reuse.
Installing New Printing Ribbon
1. Mount the empty core, saved in step 3 above, to the take-up spool.
2. Mount the new ribbon on the supply spool so that it will uncoil from the top of roll in a counter
clockwise direction as shown in Figure 5-2.
3. Thread the ribbon as shown in Figure 5-2 below. Place tape around left side and under roller
1 — across and over roller 2 — down and under guide rod — under the print head — to left
outside of peel plate — left outside of roller 3 — and up to take-up spool. Tape the end of
the ribbon to the empty take-up core. Caution must be taken to assure that the ribbon is
mounted squarely, so that it will roll evenly as it is used.
4. Screw the retainers in place and tighten them so the cores do not slide on their respected
spools. Ensure that the pin in the take-up spool locks into the hole in the retainer plate and
that the screw is inserted into a notch in the cardboard core.
5. Once the ribbon is loaded, press [CTRL] + [W] to initiate movement. The take-up spool will
run until the [CTRL] + [W] keys are pressed again. Ensure the ribbon is winding correctly,
and that the ribbon moves freely and evenly.
