D-40 Operation Manual
4.8.6.a: Pad Character
"Pad characters" are the characters used to fill in the maximum character locations when the
data entered does not meet the maximum size of the field. Choices for this parameter are
either "None" or "Spaces".
4.8.6.b: Auto Advance
The "Auto advance" parameter refers to moving the cursor to the next field automatically
when data is typed in at the time of card production, rather than having to manually depress
the entry key to do the same thing. When enabled, the auto advancement only takes place
after the maximum character amount for the field is reached. Choices for this parameter are
either "No" or "Yes".
4.8.6.c: Prompt
This parameter allows entry of up to 35 characters of instructions or other pertinent
information that will appear in the prompt field and guide the operator's entry of data.
4.8.6.d: Min Characters
This parameter sets the minimum number of characters allowed in a field.
4.8.6.e: Max Characters
This parameter sets the maximum number of characters allowed in a field, affecting the size
of the field. The maximum number will influence (or be influenced by) the point size of the
font used.
4.8.6.f: Default Text
The "Default text" parameter allows entry of text that will be printed in the field if keyboard
entries are not made at the time of card production. ("Default Text" acts similar to "Fixed
Text", but can be overridden by operator entry.) A maximum of 45 characters is permitted.
4.8.6.g: Allow
The "Allow" parameter is considered a validation mechanism. Its function is to minimize
incorrect keyboard entry by type of characters.
• If "Digits" is chosen, only digits (0-9) can be typed in the field.
• If "Alpha" is chosen, only letters (a-z) can be typed in the field.
• If "All" is chosen, not only can both letters and numbers can be typed in the field, but
any printable character. This includes spaces, commas, symbols, etc.
