If the source is "Fixed", the exact text will be stored along with the layout in the D-40. This text
is entered after the "Fixed Text" prompt as the field is created. Once stored, it can only be
changed by "editing" the layout.
If the choice is "Variable", the field can only be filled in using keyboard data entry at the time
of printing. However, the "Variable" fields are only temporarily stored in the system's RAM
and require new data be entered for each card.
If "Host" is chosen, the field is populated with data from a host computer connected to an
identified communication port. However, the host protocol (as well as other communication
settings) must be identified and set under the "Communication" options prior to usage.
4.7.12.a: Pad Character
"Pad characters" are the characters used to fill in the maximum character locations when the
data entered does not meet the maximum size of the field. Choices for this parameter are
either "None" or "Spaces".
4.7.12.b: Auto Advance
The "Auto advance" parameter refers to moving the cursor to the next field automatically
when data is typed in at the time of card production, rather than having to manually depress
the entry key to do the same thing. When enabled, the auto advancement only takes place
after the maximum character amount for the field is reached. Choices for this parameter are
either "No" or "Yes".
4.7.12.c: Prompt
This parameter allows entry of up to 35 characters of instructions or other pertinent
information that will appear in the prompt field and guide the operator's entry of data.
4.7.12.d: Min Characters
This parameter sets the minimum number of characters allowed in a field.
4.7.12.e: Max Characters
The maximum number of characters allowed in a field, affecting the size of the field. The
maximum number will influence (or be influenced by) the point size of the font used.
