As many layout names that there are room for will be displayed. However, if there are more
than can be shown, the list is scrolled through using either the left or right Arrow keys. The
list will then shift as you move through it, the first letter of each layout being highlighted.
Once the layout has been decided upon, it can be chosen by pressing the [ENTER] key.
Immediately after pressing the key, the user is returned to the Main Menu. The selected
layout becomes the "Active" layout – the one used to produce cards.

2.8: Online Option

This option is selected to allow a host computer to print using the D-40 printer, turning over all
control to the host. The communication link is established either via serial port or network
connection. During this process, the D-40 printer will emulate a HP Laserjet III printer.
To select the "Online" option, perform one of the following:
By pressing the [O] button on the keyboard (while in the Main Menu) and then
pressing the [ENTER] key.
Using the Arrow keys to highlight the letter "O"(while in the Main Menu) and then
pressing the [ENTER] key.
By pressing the [ONLINE] button on the Front Panel.

2.9: Utility Option

The "Utility" option defines all operating parameters for the D-40 printer system. The "Utility"
option is not typically an operator function. Access to the Utility functions can be password
restricted This function is used to create, modify, or delete card layouts described later in this
manual. It is also used to activate and program system functioning. These Utility functions,
typically service technician functions, are defined in the D-40 Service manual.

2.10: Counters Option

The "Counters" option allows the viewing of the two production counters only. There is no
other associated function with this option.

2.11: Start-up

At Start-up, the D-40 Series automatically does a file check, looking for bad or missing files.
Also at this point, by holding down any key while the unit is "booting-up", a boot menu will
appear. This menu allows the operator to switch between the several firmware versions that
may be resident in memory. (All new firmware upgrades in the field are downloaded to the
D-40 system by use of the "NBS Dashboard Program".)
