D-40 Operation Manual
4.7.12.f:
Default Text
The "Default text" parameter allows entry of text that will be printed in the field if keyboard
entries are not made at the time of card production. ("Default Text" acts similar to "Fixed
Text", but can be overridden by operator entry.) A maximum of 45 characters is permitted.
4.7.12.g: Allow
The "Allow" parameter is considered a validation mechanism. Its function is to minimize incorrect
keyboard entry by type of characters.
• If "Digits" is chosen, only digits (0-9) can be typed in the field.
• If "Alpha" is chosen, only letters (a-z) can be typed in the field.
• If "All" is chosen, not only can both letters and numbers can be typed in the field, but
all printable characters. This includes spaces, commas, symbols, etc.
The last two parameters are also dependent on what is selected for the "Allow" option. "Mod
10" and "Increment by" are only shown if "Digits" is selected.
4.7.12.g.1: MOD 10
The "Mod 10" option can only be used when "digits" have been selected for the "Allow"
option. This is because "Mod 10" stands for "Modulus 10 Check" – a validation test.
4.7.12.g.2: Increment by
The "Increment by" option also can only be used when "digits" have been selected for the
"Allow" option. The system can only increment the number by a single whole number
between 1 and 9.
4.7.12.h: Maximum Chars
This parameter sets the maximum number of characters allowed in a field, affecting the size
of the field. The maximum number will influence (or be influenced by) the point size of the
font used.
