D-40 Operation Manual
The top line of the screen displays the menu selection. Placement of the cursor (using the
Arrow keys) determines the menu highlighted and the comment seen on the second line of
the display:
PRINT - Print a card using active layout.
LAYOUT - Select local card layout.
ONLINE - Enter online mode.
UTILITY - System utilities.
COUNTERS - Production counters.
Menu selection can also occur through use of the keyboard. By pressing the first letter of any
of the options, the machine highlights that particular option. Pressing the [ENTER] key while
that option is highlighted, selects that option. For example, on pressing the letter [U] and
[ENTER] key, the "Utility" option is selected; on pressing the letter [L] and [ENTER] key, the
"Layout" option is selected.
Once a Main Menu option has been selected, the Arrow keys can then be used (in
conjunction with other keys) to enter data, turn variables on/off, switch between multiple
choices of variables, and navigate through the hierarchy of menus.

2.6: Print Option

The Print option is probably the operator's most commonly used feature. Whether the unit
has been reset or just turned on, the last layout in use will be available for printing. If this
layout is the one desired, depressing the [ENTER] key while the "P" in "Print" is highlighted
will start the printing process. Refer to next chapter for printing instructions. If it is not the
desired layout use the Layout command to select one of the other preprogrammed layouts.
Refer to paragraph 2.7 - Layout Option below to change layouts.
To create new layouts refer to Chapter 4 - Creating Layouts.

2.7: Layout Option

This main menu option is selected only to switch between the existing layouts stored in the
memory of the machine. To change the "Layout" option, move the cursor until it highlights the
"L" in "Layout" (in the Main Menu) and depress the [ENTER] key. The display screen in
Figure 2-4 will then appear. (All layouts are user defined. All layout names shown in Figure
2-3 are for illustration purposes only.)
