Front Axle
FRONT AXLE REMOVAL AND

INSTALLATION

WARNING
This section is one section of a complete service
manual. Before starting any procedure, read all
warnings and instructions that are located in the
Service Guidelines chapter.

Removal

1: Raise the front of the vehicle and support with
jack stands.
2: Remove both front wheels. Refer to procedure in
"Tires and Wheels" section.
3: Tie up or support the front axle so it can not fall
out of the vehicle.
4: Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the steer
cylinder.
5: Disconnect the hydraulic brake lines from the
brake calipers.
6: Remove the bolts holding the springs to the frame
and remove the front axle/spring assembly from
the vehicle.
Installation
1: The front of the vehicle should already be raised
and supported with jack stands.
2: Apply grease to the sliding pad at the rear spring
mount (refer to lube chart).
3:
Install the front axle/spring assembly in reverse
order of removal.
4: Tighten the spring bolts per torque listed in the
Hardware Torque table at the end of this section.
5: Check wheel alignment. Refer to procedure "Align
Front Wheels" for details.
6: Bleed the front brakes. Refer to
section for information regarding bleeding the
brakes.
7: Lower the vehicle.
8: Reconnect the battery, remove the blocks from
behind the wheels and test drive the vehicle.

REPLACE THE KING PINS AND
BUSHINGS
This section is one section of a complete service
manual. Before starting any procedure, read all
warnings and instructions that are located in the
Service Guidelines chapter.
Failure to correctly broach or ream the bronze king
pin bushings may result in steering difficulty and loss
of control of the vehicle causing severe bodily injury
and /or property damage.
It is recommended that if a wearable component is
replaced on one side of a vehicle, the same components
should be replaced on the other side of the vehicle.
The king pin bushings and king pin are only available as a
set. The set includes king pins, bushings, thrust bearings,
e-clips, washers, and plugs for both left and right sides.
This procedure assumes that the front axle component
has been removed from the vehicle. Refer to the
component assembly removal instructions for details
and warnings regarding the removal and installation
procedure.
1: Remove the hub and king pins. Refer to
2: Press all four bushings out of the axle beam.
3: Install new bushings making sure that the hole in
