ALIGN FRONT WHEELS

WARNING
This section is one section of a complete service
manual. Before starting any procedure, read all
warnings and instructions that are located in the
Service Guidelines chapter.
Alignment of the front wheels consists of setting the
Toe In only. Camber and Castor are fixed and cannot
be adjusted.
The Toe In specification is 0 to +0.25 inch (6.3 mm)
measured at the wheels or 0 to +.010 inch (2.5 mm)
measured at the brake rotors.
1: Raise the front of the vehicle and support with
jack stands.
2: Measure the Toe In:
a) If measuring at the tires, mark a line around the
center of the tires.
b) Measure the distance between the center lines
at the front of the tires or rotors (T1).
c) Measure the distance between the center lines
at the rear of the tires or rotors (T2).
d) Calculate T2 - T1 = Toe In.
3: Remove both front wheels.
4: Loosen both rod end jam nuts.
5: Remove both rod end pivot pins from the steering
cylinder.

6: Turn the steering wheel so that the steering
cylinder ram is centered in the steering cylinder.
7: Place a square on the axle beam up against a
steering knuckle backing plate and clamp the
square to the beam and backing plate holding the
steering knuckle perpendicular to the axle beam..
8: Adjust the Rod End until the Pivot Pin can be
easily installed in the cylinder ram and tighten the
Pivot Pin nut per torque listed in the Hardware
Torque table at the end of this section.
9: With the clamp still in place, adjust the other rod
end so that the differential distance between the
front and rear of the two brake rotors is 0 (no toe
in).
10: Now, turn the rod end in an additional 1-turn and
confirm the Toe In is within specifications.
11: Tighten the Pivot Pin nut per torque listed in the
Hardware Torque table at the end of this section.
12: Tighten the Pivot Pin Jam Nuts per torque listed
in the Hardware Torque table at the end of this
section.
13: Lubricate the rod ends with the appropriate
grease..
14: Install the front wheels. Refer to procedure in
"Tires and Wheels" section.
15: Lower the vehicle.
16: Reconnect the battery, remove the blocks from
behind the wheels and test drive the vehicle.
