D.2
Using Manual Techniques of Fault
Isolation to Diagnose Error Messages
Some faults cannot be isolated to a single FRU without performing manual steps to
help isolate the problem. For these types of failures, the fault diagnosis includes
multiple FRUs in the fault list.
The following sections provide additional details and suggested steps to locate the
problem FRU.
D.2.1
Error Messages and Fault Managed Resource
Identifiers
When a fault is diagnosed, a message is displayed on the console log. For example:
Sep 15 13:05:53 burl-m4000-0 fmd: SOURCE: sde, REV: 1.16, CSN:
0000000000
to URL/msg/IOXSCF-8000-CQ for detailed information.
The fmdump utility can be used to retrieve fault diagnosis details associated with a
fault event:
XSCF> fmdump -v -u event-id
