Access-Network Control Protocol Description
Access-Network Control Protocol Description
The Access-Network Control Protocol (ANCP) is a transport protocol that can be used to deliver
information for any application, while remaining independent from the application. ANCP is used in the
application between DSLAMs and the broadband remote access server (BRAS) in a digital subscriber
line (DSL) broadband environment.
The ANCP feature enables close communication between DSL aggregation modems (for example,
DSLAMs) and network edge devices. Using ANCP between DSLAMs and a BRAS enables the two ends
to exchange events, actions, and information requests so that the appropriate actions occur on either end.
