Open the lid before performing the following
operations.

Press FUNCTION repeatedly to switch
the function to MD.

Press MENU/NO.

Press V or v repeatedly until "Setup?"
appears, then press ENTER/YES.

Press V or v repeatedly until "S.Space
Off" (or "S.Space On") appears, then
press ENTER/YES.

Press V or v repeatedly until "S.Space
On" appears, then press ENTER/YES.

Press MENU/NO.
To continue recording, follow the
procedures described for each type of
recording.
To turn off the Smart Space
Function
In step 5, press
Off" appears, then press ENTER/YES.
Note
If you operate this unit with the lid closed, "OPEN"
blinks in the front panel display. Open the lid and
confirm the displayed message before proceeding.

Adjusting the recording
level
When recording on an MD, you can adjust the
recording level to the desired volume. You can
adjust the recording level not only when making
an analog recording, but also when making a
digital recording from a CD, etc.
Open the lid before performing the following
operations.

Press FUNCTION repeatedly to select
the desired source to record.

Press REC/REC IT on the unit.
The MD deck stands by for recording.

Start playing the desired source to
record.

Press MENU/NO to display "Setup?",
then press ENTER/YES.

Press V or v repeatedly until
"LevelAdjust?" appears, then press
ENTER/YES.

Press V or v repeatedly to adjust the
recording level.
Adjust to the optimum level while making
sure that "OVER" does not appear in the
display at the loudest portion.
Adjust the level so as not to light up "OVER".
7
Press ENTER/YES.

Press MENU/NO.
9
Stop playing the sound source.
The MD deck stops.
To continue recording, follow the
procedures described for each type of
recording.
