Frequently Ask Questions (FAQ)

General
What is rapid prototyping?
Rapid prototyping(RP)is the process of building a part froo a 3-D Cad drawing and converting the drawing format into an .STL file. When printing
event takes place in the printer, it is constructed layer by layer using materials.
What is 3-D Printing?
A type of rapid prototyping, typically defined by faster, more affordable, and easier-to-use technologies.
How does 3-DPrinting fit into the design process?
3-D Printing is a valuable tool for designers allowing for proof of concept, functional testing, form and fit testing, quotation prints, and marketing
focus group testing.
How does the 3-D printing process work?
Designers that depend on 3-D solid CAD, the 3-D Printer is quickly becoming an essential extension of their overall CAD system and a critical part
of the entire design process.
Shorten design and development cycles which ultimately get products to the market more quickly by enabling users to easily fine tune their
designs.
Is post-processing required?
Post processing is required. Follow the ProJet® Material Handling and Post Processing Guide for complete detail instructions.
Are there any special facility requirements or operating systems necessary to install and operate the printer?
Refer to Specifications and Requirements section.
Can more than one user process files and build parts?
Users can send files to the printer build queue and the printer's administrator can move, delete and set build priorities in the build queue.
Depending on the size of the print, multiple files can be added onto the build pad in one build application.
How can I get software updates?
When the printer is first set up, you can check for software up dates locatd in Advancced dropdown menu.
Can parts be painted, glued and drilled?
Yes, see "
Cleaning Part
"
What is a .STL file?
It is a triangular representation of a 3-D object. Surface of object is broken into a logical series of triangles. These triangles represent the surface
of the object.
How do I export an STL file from my 3-D CAD program?
Most CAD software offers STL conversion add-ins.
Are the print pads reusable?
The print pads are not reusable because the support structure from the previous part creates an uneven surface from which to print the new
part(s). If reusing a print pass, it can cause cartridge failure.
How many prints can one material cartridge produce?
