Mounting locations for hard disk drives in the RAID5 system
Contrary to a RAID1 system, hard disk drives for a RAID5 system can only be installed on
the front in the removable drive bays. Additional information is available in the section
"Removing and installing the hard disk drive from the removable drive bay (Page 67)".
Note
The replacement of a hard disk drive with removable drive bays and in the RAID system can
be performed without shutting down the device.
The new hard disk drive can be integrated into the RAID5 system at operating system level
with the RAID software. Synchronization may take several hours, depending on system load.
The following figure shows an RAID5 system with three hard disk drives as an example and
a hot spare hard disk drive in the removable drive bay.
