In load balancing mode, traffic is load balanced among multiple interfaces:

1.3 Configuring Interface Backup in Active/Standby Mode

This section describes how to configure interface backup in active/standby mode. When the
primary interface is faulty, a backup interface with the highest priority is started to transmit
services.

The system periodically checks whether the traffic volume on the primary interface exceeds
the threshold. If the traffic volume exceeds the upper threshold, the backup interface with
the highest priority is selected to load balance services.
If the traffic volume still exceeds the upper threshold, the interface that has the second
highest priority starts to load balance services with the two interfaces. This process is
repeated until the traffic volume falls below the upper threshold.
When the traffic volume falls below the lower threshold, the backup interface that has the
lowest priority in use is shut down. This process is repeated until the traffic volume is above
the lower threshold.
NOTE
l The upper and lower thresholds determine whether to use the active/standby mode or load balancing
mode. If the thresholds are set, the load balancing mode is used. Otherwise, the active/standby mode
is used.
l The active/standby mode and load balancing mode cannot be used simultaneously. In active/standby
mode, backup interfaces do not transmit services even if the primary interface is overloaded. In load
balancing mode, if the master interface is faulty, the backup interface takes over services, but the load
balancing function is invalid.

Usage Scenario
This mode is used when route reachability on
the primary link needs to be monitored.
When the routing entry of the primary link is
deleted or becomes inactive, the backup
interface starts to transmit traffic.
