CHECKING THE CRANKCASE

1. Thoroughly wash the crankcase halves in a
mild solvent.
2. Thoroughly clean all the gasket surfaces and
crankcase mating surfaces.
3. Check:
• Crankcase
Cracks/damage → Replace.
• Oil delivery passages
Obstruction → Blow out with compressed air.

ASSEMBLING THE CRANKCASE

1. Install:
• Oil seal "1"
New
(into the right crankcase "2")
Installed depth "a"
0.5–1.0 mm (0.02–0.04 in)

2. Thoroughly clean the crankcase mating sur-
faces.
3. Apply:
• Sealant "1"
(onto the crankcase mating surfaces)
Yamaha bond No. 1215

(Three bond No.1215®)
TIP
Do not allow any sealant to come into contact
with the oil gallery.

4. Fit the right crankcase onto the left crank-
case. Tap lightly on the crankcase with a soft-
face hammer.

NOTICE
Before tightening the crankcase bolts, make
sure the transmission gears shift correctly
when the shift drum assembly is turned by
hand.
5. Install:
• Crankcase bolts
6. Tighten:
• Crankcase bolts
Crankcase bolt (M8)
26 Nm (2.6 m·kgf, 19 ft·lbf)
Crankcase bolt (M6)
10 Nm (1.0 m·kgf, 7.2 ft·lbf)
M8 × 40 mm "1"
M6 × 90 mm "2"
M6 × 60 mm "3"
M6 × 30 mm "4"
TIP
Tighten the bolts in stages, using a crisscross
pattern.
