CHECKING THE CRANKCASE

1. Thoroughly wash the crankcase halves in a
mild solvent.
2. Thoroughly clean all the gasket surfaces and
crankcase mating surfaces.
3. Check:
• Crankcase
Cracks/damage → Replace.
• Oil delivery passages
Obstruction → Blow out with compressed air.

ASSEMBLING THE CRANKCASE

1. Install:
• Oil seal "1"
New
Installed depth "a"
1.0–1.5 mm (0.04–0.06 in)

New
2. Crankcase
2. Thoroughly clean the crankcase mating sur-
faces.
3. Apply:
• Sealant "1"
(onto the crankcase mating surfaces)
Yamaha bond No. 1215
90890-85505
(Three Bond No.1215®)
TIP
• Apply two coats of sealant to the area "a"
shown in the illustration.
• Do not allow any sealant to come into contact
with the oil gallery.
4. Install:
• Dowel pins "2"

5. Fit the right crankcase onto the left crank-
case. Tap lightly on the case with a soft ham-
mer.

NOTICE
Before installing and torquing the crankcase
holding bolts, be sure to check whether the
transmission is functioning properly by
manually rotating the shift drum in both di-
rections.
6. Install:
• Lead holders
• Crankcase bolts
7. Tighten:
• Crankcase bolts
Crankcase bolt "1"
26 Nm (2.6 m·kg, 19 ft·lb)
Crankcase bolt "2", "3"
10 Nm (1.0 m·kg, 7.2 ft·lb)
M8 × 40 mm "1"
M6 × 60 mm "2"
M6 × 30 mm "3"
TIP
Tighten the bolts in stages, using a crisscross
pattern.
