Service and Maintenance
The hot check procedure is the
most accurate method to check
the fluid level.
Use the following procedure:
1. Park the vehicle on a level
surface and apply the parking
brake.
The engine must be running
and the transmission must be
in P (Park).
2. With your foot on the brake
pedal, move the shift lever
through each gear range,
pausing for about 3 seconds in
each range. Then position the
shift lever in P (Park).
3. Run the engine at idle speed
for about 3 to 5 minutes.

4. Locate the transmission fluid
dipstick.
See "Engine Compartment"
earlier in this section to
determine the location.
5. With the engine running at
idle speed, lift the handle and
remove the dipstick. Wipe
it clean and reinsert it by
pushing it down all the way.
6. Wait for 3 seconds, remove
the dipstick again and check
the fluid level.
Keep the dipstick pointed
down to get an accurate
reading.
Check both sides and read the
lower level.
The level should be in the
cross-hatched HOT area if the
fluid is hot or in the COLD area
if the fluid is cool.
