2. Hold your hand-held transmit-
ter within 8 cm (3-inch) of the
universal transmitter buttons.
Keep the indicator light in
view.
3. Choose which of the three
buttons you want to program.
Simultaneously press and hold
both the desired button and
the hand-held transmitter but-
ton.
With some hand-held gate
operators, the hand-held
transmitter may automatically
stop transmitting after two
seconds. If this is the case with
your system, you should press
and hold the universal trans-
mitter button while you press
and repress the hand-held but-
ton every two seconds until
system is trained.

The indicator light should be-
gin to blink slowly and then
rapidly after the universal
transmitter successfully re-
ceives the frequency signal
from the hand-held transmit-
ter.
4. Release the buttons.
5. Press and hold the pro-
grammed button.
Keep the indicator light in
view.
If the indicator light stays on
steadily, programming is com-
plete.
Test the operation of the uni-
versal transmitter button. Press
and release the button to acti-
vate the device.
If the indicator light blinks rap-
idly for 2 seconds and then
stays on steadily, continue
with the following steps.
6. Find the "smart" button on the
garage door opener motor
head unit.
See the manufacturer's or in-
staller's instructions for the lo-
cation.
7. Press the button.
If possible, have someone help
you perform this procedure.
