6. Hold the regular brake pedal
down and shift the transmis-
sion to ensure the transfer
case is in neutral.
- If your vehicle is equipped
with an automatic transmis-
sion, shift the transmission
into R (Reverse), then shift
into D (Drive).
- If your vehicle is equipped
with a manual transmission,
shift the transmission into R
(Reverse), then shift into first
gear and release the clutch
pedal.
7. Turn the engine off.
8. Shift an automatic transmis-
sion into P (Park). Shift a man-
ual transmission into 1 (First
Gear).
9. Turn the ignition to LOCK.
To shift out of the N (Neutral)
transfer case position:
1. Set the parking brake and
apply the regular brake pedal.
2. Shift an automatic transmis-
sion into N (Neutral) or push
the clutch pedal if you have a
manual transmission.
3. Turn the ignition on but do
not start the engine.
4. Press the appropriate button
to shift into the desired trans-
fer case position.
When the transfer case is no
longer in neutral, the indicator
light for the neutral transfer
case position will turn off.

5. Release the parking brake.
NOTICE
Do not shift the transmission
into gear until the transfer case
indicator light stops flashing.
Otherwise, the transfer case
could be damaged.
6. Start the engine and shift the
transmission into the desired
position.
