Passenger Sensing System

Your vehicle is equipped with the
Passenger Sensing System.
The passenger sensing system
turns off the front passenger's
frontal air bag under certain condi-
tions.
The passenger sensing system will
also turn off the front passenger's
seat-mounted side-impact air bag
(if equipped).
Note:
The driver's air bags and the
roof-mounted side-impact air
bags are not part of this system.
When you start the vehicle, the
system will perform a self-check.
The air bag "on" and "off" indica-
tors will appear briefly in the
passenger air bag on/off indicator
(located on the instrument panel).
When the system self-check is
complete, one of the indicators
will stay on to indicate whether the
front passenger's frontal air bag
and the seat-mounted side-impact
air bag (if equipped) are on or off.
Sensors in the front passenger seat
and safety belt detect the presence
of an occupant to determine if the
passenger's frontal air bag and the
seat-mounted side-impact air bag
(if equipped) should be on or off.
Section 2
The passenger sensing system will
turn off the passenger frontal air
bag and the seat-mounted side-
impact air bag (if equipped) under
the following conditions:
• The front passenger seat has no
weight placed on it for a period
of time.
• The system detects a child in a
rear-facing infant seat.
• The system detects a child in a
forward-facing child restraint.
• The system detects a child in a
booster seat.
