Profile Setting

A profile is a pre-configured set of values for the downstream (ATU-C, ADSL Termination Unit-Central) and
upstream (ATU-R, ADSL Termination Unit-Remote) ADSL channels. You can configure multiple profiles,
including profiles for troubleshooting. You assign a profile to individual ADSL ports.
Profiles allow you to configure ADSL ports efficiently. You can configure all of the ADSL ports with the same
profile by modifying the profile, thus removing the need to configure the ADSL ports one-by-one. You can also
change an individual ADSL port by assigning it a different profile.
For example, you could set up different profiles for different kinds of accounts (for instance, economy, standard
and premium). Assign the appropriate profile to an ADSL port and it takes care of a large part of the port's
configuration. You still get to individually enable or disable each port, as well as configure its encapsulation type,
multiplexing mode, VPI, VCI and operational mode.
You can enter any number (within the limits) for port speed, but it automatically adjusts downwards to the next
number that is a multiple of 64 Kbps. For instance, if you specify 600 Kbps as minimum line rate, the configured
rate displayed in the profile will be 576 Kbps.
The maximum number of profiles allowed depends on the number of DSL ports on your device. For example, the
AAM1008 module has 8 DSL ports, so you can configure up to 16 profiles (two per port). Other modules may
have different maximum allowed profile-to-port ratios.
