Using AIM, Yahoo, and Google Talk Messaging

After you get used to BlackBerry Messenger you will begin to see that it is a powerful
way of quickly keeping in touch with friends, family, and colleagues. Realizing that many
are still not in the BlackBerry world, you can also access and use popular IM programs
like AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo Messenger, and Google Talk Messenger right
out of the box on the BlackBerry. Individual carriers do have some restrictions, however,
and you will need to check your carrier web sites to see which services are supported.

To Install Instant Messenger Applications

1. First, see if your carrier has placed an IM or
Instant Messaging folder icon in your
applications directory.
2. Navigate to Applications and scroll for an
icon that simply is called IM.
3. If you have an IM folder icon, click and follow
the on screen prompts to install each
application.
4. If there is no IM folder icon or you cannot find IM applications, use
BlackBerry App World to download any number of IM applications. See
page 431 for details.
