To type only numbers or the symbols shown on the top of the keys, turn on Num/Alt
lock by pressing the Alt key and then the left Shift key. Tap the either Shift key to turn
off Num/Alt lock.

Automatic Period and Cap at End of Sentence

At the end of a sentence, just press the
space key twice to get a ''.'' (period). The
next letter you type will be automatically
capitalized.

Typing Symbols: Using the Alt and Sym Keys

There are two ways to enter symbols on your BlackBerry. Several symbols are shown on
the top of each key, and you can access these by holding the Alt key while pressing the
key w ith t he symbol y ou w ant. T he o ther s et o f s ymbols---- - not s hown o n t he k eyboard---- -
are accessed by pressing the Sym (Symbol) key. Both keys allow you to quickly add
symbols to your text.
Suppose you want to use a #, for example. You just press and hold the Alt key while
pressing the Q key, as shown in Figure 6-1.
