Windows Messaging
Introduction
Your Sharp Colour Multifunction Interface software enables you
to receive both faxes and e-mail messages in a unified inbox provid-
ing you have Microsoft Exchange (Windows Messaging) or
Outlook installed as your mail application. If you are not using
Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, your faxes will be handled by the
Sharp Message Center and e-mail messages will be handled by
your Internet-based e-mail package.

Using Microsoft Exchange/Outlook

If Microsoft Exchange/Outlook is installed on your PC, then MAPI
(Messaging Application Programming Interface) is automatically
installed on your system. Essentially, MAPI enables the Send
command in any Windows-based application that permits you to send
a file, as either an e-mail attachment or fax, directly from the Win-
dows application itself.
If MS Exchange/Outlook and MAPI are installed, the MS Ex-
change/Outlook Inbox becomes the delivery point for all faxes and
e-mail messages received by your PC. Therefore, there is no need
for the Sharp Message Center to display its Inbox as you can view
all your received faxes in the MS Exchange/Outlook Inbox.
You may send faxes and e-mail messages via the Sharp Colour
Multifunction Interface Fax/Image-E-mail application, the Viewer
application, from any Windows application, or directly from your MS
Exchange/Outlook e-mail package. If there is a failure in sending a
fax, you will see an error message in your MS Exchange/Outlook
Inbox.
A record of all faxes and e-mail messages sent via MS Exchange/
Outlook is saved in the Sent Items folder in Exchange. In MS
Exchange/Outlook, you can easily view the Sharp Message
Center Fax Activity Logs by selecting View from the menu bar,
View Fax Logs..., and then selecting either Inbox Log or Outbox
Log. Should you delete a sent or a received fax from within MS
Exchange/Outlook, your Sharp Message Center will still maintain
a record of that fax in either the Inbox Activity Log or the Outbox
