Introduction

The TextBridge OCR by Xerox is sophisticated technology that can
analyze a fax or scanned image, and translate it into editable text for
your word processor or other application. OCR accuracy depends on
the size and clarity of the characters in the fax or scanned image,
and depends on the cleanliness of the image that was scanned. For
example, characters which are touching will not be easily recognized.
The spell checker tool in your word processing or spreadsheet
application will correct a large percentage of OCR errors, although
you will still need to proof and correct the document. However,
OCR-ing can be much more productive than retyping the entire page
and still having to proof the document.
The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) functions are accessed
from within the Viewer application. The OCR capability enables you
to convert a displayed .ALA or imported image file to text. OCR
allows you convert a portion of an image, a range of pages, or an
entire file. You may also select, convert and send text to the Win-
dows Clipboard to paste to any Windows application. The OCR
feature is also a powerful utility for converting and saving text in a
wide number of popular file formats for use in other programs such
as word-processing or spread sheet applications. The OCR capability
enables you to easily convert your faxes and hardcopy printed
documents into editable text, while saving you hours of retyping!
The OCR conversion system lets you pick what you want to convert
and even enables you to review your results before they are saved.
