This chapter describes how to set an original to be scanned with this machine.
It is possible to set an original on the exposure glass or the ADF. To scan both
sides of a page and several pages successively, the ADF is convenient.

Originals that Require Special Care

When scanning the following types of originals, be sure to follow the descrip-
tions below.
❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Originals whose size is difficult to auto detect
It is difficult for this machine to automatically detect the sizes of the following
types of originals, so select the original size manually.
• Originals with indexes, tags, or other protrusions
• Transparent originals such as OHP transparencies or translucent paper
• Text or picture dense original
• Originals containing solid images
• Originals containing solid images around their edges
