CAST ZFP Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Panel
8.2
Recommended Shortform Installation & Commissioning Procedure
Note: DO NOT connect mains or battery power to the panel until the installation is complete, i.e. panel PCBs
are fitted and field wiring has been tested and connected to the panel.
Remove the panel's lid and chassis – see section 5.3
Fit the panel's back box to a wall – see section 5.5.
Gland field cables to the panel and terminate screens to the earth bar in the back box – see section 5.10.
Test field cables and ensure they are fault-free, i.e. check continuity of cable runs (including screens).
Check the continuity on the negative (-ve) line of the device loop to ensure it is fault free. Loop isolators
are in the positive (+ve) line, therefore continuity cannot be tested. Check the resistance of the
conventional sounder circuits (if used) and all other field wiring to ensure they are fault free. DO NOT
MEGGER! Remove all electronic devices if 500V testing is demanded – see section 4.3.
Connect external mains cable to the panel (with mains isolated) – see section 5.16.
Connect panel's internal batteries (with battery supply isolated) – see section 5.17.
Refit the panel's chassis and lid– see section 5.6.
Connect analogue loop(s) wiring to the panel – see section 5.10.
Connect conventional sounder circuit(s) to the panel – see section 5.11.
Connect additional field wiring to the panel – see sections 5.12 to 5.14.
Apply mains and battery supply to power up the panel.
Investigate and rectify any messages reported as faults on the panel's touchscreen.
After all faults have been cleared commission the panel by entering access level 3 and performing an
auto address or loop learn.
All the loop devices connected to the panel need to have an address assigning to them. In addition, the
panel needs to read all the fitted devices and identify their address.
There are two recommended options to do this:
Option 1 (AUTO ADDRESS): Enter AL3 (4444)> COMMISSIONING FUNCTIONS > AUTO ADDRESS
menu option. This will automatically assign an address to each loop device in sequentially wired order. See
section 8.6.2 for details.
Option 2 (LOOP LEARN): First, use a CAST Handheld Programmer (Part No. CAPROG) to manually
assign an address to each loop device. Second, enter AL3 (4444) > COMMISSIONING FUNCTIONS >
LOOP LEARN menu option. See section 8.6.1 for details.
Rectify any problems resulting from the auto address or loop learn, e.g. double addresses, missing
devices,
etc.
After all faults have been cleared carry out necessary panel tests.
Proceed to program the panel using the CAST ZFP Programming Tools (Part No. ZTOOLS). This
includes naming loop devices, naming zones and assigning devices to input and output groups.
When you are satisfied the panel has been programmed and is working correctly, secure the panel lid
and instruct the client / customer in the operation of the system.
Complete and hand over all necessary manuals and other documentation prior to leaving site.
Hint! CAST ZFP Programming Tools (Part No. ZTOOLS) are available that allow quick and easy
input of data, cause and effect programming, device and zone naming, etc. Contact your distributor
for details.
