Shiftpoint light

The shiftpoint light 1 signals to
the rider that the engine speed is
approaching the speed at which
the rider needs to shift to the
next highest gear.
Shiftpoint light flashes at the
preset frequency: engine
speed will soon reach shifting
speed
Shiftpoint light goes out: shift-
ing speed reached
The speed thresholds and the
behavior of the shiftpoint light
can be adjusted in the Set-
tings, Vehicle settings
menu (also see the "Operation"
chapter).

Brakes

How do you achieve
the shortest stopping
distances?
The dynamic load distribution be-
tween the front and rear wheel
changes during braking. The
heavier you brake, the greater
the weight transfer to the front
wheel. The greater the load on
an individual wheel, the more
brake force can be transferred.
To achieve the shortest possi-
ble braking distance, the front
brake must be applied quickly
and with progressively greater
levels of force. This procedure
provides ideal exploitation of the
extra weight transfer to the front
wheel. The clutch should also be
disengaged at the same time.
Locking up of the front wheel
is prevented by BMW Motorrad
Race ABS.
With the frequently instructed
"forced braking," in which the
brake pressure is generated as
quickly as possible and with great
force, dynamic load distribu-
tion lags behind the progres-
sive increases in deceleration
rate and the braking force cannot
be completely transferred to the
road surface. Due to the miss-
ing wheel load, the ABS must
already prevent a tendency of the
