Configuring an in-band management IPv6 address

Use this procedure to configure the in-band management IPv6 address for a switch or stack.
Important:
Changing or clearing the in-band management IPv6 address disconnects any active IP
management connections.
About this task
You can dynamically change the in-band management IPv6 address using Telnet, SSH, SNMP,
HTTP, and HTTPS.
Procedure
1. Enter Global Configuration mode:
enable
configure terminal
2. To assign or modify the in-band management IPv6 address for a switch or stack, enter the
following at the command prompt:
ipv6 address [switch | stack | unit <1–8>] <WORD>
Note:
You configure the stack in-band management IPv6 address on the stack base unit.
Important:
Only one management default gateway can operate for each unit or stack. The out-of-
band management default gateway takes precedence over the in-band management
default gateway. Once an out-of-band management default gateway is configured, the
in-band management address is reachable only through a directly attached subnet for
the management VLAN.
3. To assign the default gateway, enter the following at the command prompt:
ipv6 default-gateway <WORD>
4. To clear the in-band management IPv6 address and the default gateway, enter the following
commands at the command prompt:
no ipv6 address [switch | stack | unit <1–8>]
