If you do not specify a parameter with the ip address command, the system automatically modifies the
stack IP address when in stack mode, and modifies the switch IP address when in standalone mode.
Obtaining an in-band management IP address
automatically
Use this procedure to automatically obtain an in-band management IP address, subnet mask and
default gateway on the switch or stack.
About this task
When you use DHCP, the switch or stack can also obtain up to three DNS server IP addresses.
Procedure
1. Enter Global Configuration mode:
enable
configure terminal
2. At the command prompt, enter the following command:
ip address source {bootp-always | bootp-last-address | bootp-when-
needed | configured-address | dhcp-always | dhcp-last-address |
dhcp-when-needed}
