Chapter 7: Verification
This chapter contains information about how to verify that your provisioning procedures result in a
functional switch.
Pinging an IP device
You can ping a device to test the connection between a switch and another network device. After
you ping a device, the switch sends an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packet to the
target device. If the device receives the packet, it sends a ping reply. After the switch receives the
reply, a message appears that indicates traffic can reach the specified IP address. If the switch does
not receive a reply, the message indicates the address does not respond.
About this task
Use this procedure to ping a device.
Procedure
1. Log on to ACLI to enter User EXEC mode.
2. At the command prompt, enter the following command:
ping <IP_address>
where <IP_address> is an IPv4 or IPv6 address.
