park the vehicle on a level surface

the engine should be switched off for approx-

imately five minutes if the engine is at normal
operating temperature
if the engine is not at normal operating tem-

perature, e.g. if the engine was only started
briefly: wait about 30 minutes before carrying
out the measurement

In order to avoid damage to the engine from
an excessive fill level, use the oil dipstick to
accurately determine the oil level

cluster display only warns of a minimum fill
level.

WARNING
If the ECO start/stop function is activated,
the engine can be started unintentionally, e.g.
by accidentally depressing the clutch pedal. If
work is being carried out on the engine under
these circumstances, there is a risk of injury
from moving engine parts.
Deactivate the ECO start/stop function
before work is carried out on the engine.

WARNING
Cloths or other flammable materials left in the
engine compartment can ignite if they come
into contact with the exhaust system or parts
of the engine that heat up. There is a risk of
fire. After carrying out maintenance work,
make sure that no extraneous flammable
material is left in the engine compartment or
on the exhaust system.
Engine compartment

WARNING
Certain components in the engine compart-
ment could be very hot, e.g. the engine, the
radiator and parts of the exhaust system.
There is a risk of injury when accessing the
engine compartment.
As far as possible, allow the engine to cool
down and only touch the components descri-
bed in the following.
The oil dipstick is integrated into the cap of the
oil reservoir.
Vehicles with a diesel engine (example)

Open the bonnet (

Turn cap : anti-clockwise and remove oil
dipstick ;.

Wipe oil dipstick ;.

Slowly slide oil dipstick ; into the guide tube
to the stop, and take it out again.
If the engine oil level is between MIN mark ?
and MAX mark =, the oil level is correct.

If the engine oil level has dropped to or below
minimum mark ?, add 0.5 to 1.0 litre of

engine oil (
