additional braking, depress the brake pedal
repeatedly rather than continuously.
Driving tips
If the trailer begins to swing from side to side:

Do not accelerate.

Do not counter-steer.

Brake if necessary.
Maintain a greater distance than you would

when driving without towing a trailer.
Avoid sudden braking. Apply the brakes gen-

tly at first to allow the trailer brake to overrun.
Then, increase the brake force quickly.
The figures for the gradient climbing capabil-
R
ities from a standstill refer to sea level. When
driving in mountainous areas, note that the
power output of the engine, and with it its
gradient climbing capability, decrease with
increasing altitude.
Fitting the ball coupling

WARNING
If the ball coupling is not fitted correctly and is
not secured with the locking pin supplied and
the corresponding lock, the trailer could come
loose. There is a risk of an accident.
Always fit and secure the ball coupling as
described. If the ball coupling is fitted, make
sure before every journey that it is properly
secured with the locking pin supplied and the
corresponding lock.

WARNING
If the ball coupling is not correctly installed
and secured, it could come loose while driving
and endanger other road users. There is a risk
of an accident and injury.
Fit and secure the ball coupling as described.
If the ball coupling is fitted, make sure before
every journey that it is properly secured with
the locking pin supplied and the correspond-
ing lock.
Before you can tow a trailer with your vehicle,
you must fit the ball coupling.

Remove ball coupling ? and lock B with key
A from the glove compartment.

Slide ball coupling ? into ball coupling
recess : on the vehicle.

From the right side, slide locking pin ;
through ball coupling recess : and ball cou-
pling ?.

Lock locking pin ; using lock B.
X
Remove ball head cover = from ball cou-
pling ?.
X
Remove key A from lock B.
The ball coupling is only installed securely
when the ball coupling can be locked and the
key can be removed.

Coupling up a trailer

X
Engage first gear.
X
Apply the parking brake.
X
Position the trailer horizontally behind the
vehicle.
X
Couple the trailer.
X
Establish the electrical connection between
the vehicle and the trailer.
X
Check that the trailer lighting system is work-
ing.
A trailer can only be detected if the electrical
connection is established correctly and the
lighting system is in working order.
