The ç ECO symbol in the instrument cluster
lights up if:
not all operating conditions for automatic
R
engine switch-off are met
the clutch pedal is not depressed
R
you have shifted to N
R
i All of the vehicle's systems remain active
when the engine is switched off automati-
cally.
i If the engine is switched off automatically
and you open the driver's door, ECO symbol
è flashes and a warning tone sounds.
Vehicles with manual transmission
The ECO start/stop function switches the
engine off automatically if:
you are driving slower than 3 km/h
R
neutral N is engaged
R
the clutch pedal is not depressed
R
After engine switch-off, the è ECO symbol in
the instrument cluster lights up.
i If the vehicle is stationary, all conditions for
automatic engine switch-off have been met
and the clutch pedal is still depressed or a
gear is still engaged, the è ECO symbol
flashes in the instrument cluster.
Automatic engine start
General notes
The engine is started automatically if:
you switch off the ECO start/stop function by
R
pressing the ECO OFF button
the vehicle begins to roll away
R
the brake system requires this
R
the temperature in the vehicle interior devi-
R
ates from the set range
the battery's charge status is too low
R
the system detects moisture on the wind-
R
screen when the air-conditioning system is
switched on
Vehicles with manual transmission
! Only engage gear when the clutch pedal is
depressed.
The engine starts automatically when you
depress the clutch pedal. After the engine starts
automatically, the è ECO symbol in the
instrument cluster goes out.
Activating/deactivating the ECO start/
stop function

To deactivate: press ECO OFF button :.
Indicator lamp ; lights up and the è ECO
symbol in the multifunction display goes out.

To activate: press ECO OFF button :.
Indicator lamp ; goes out.
i If indicator lamp ; is on, the ECO start/
stop function has been deactivated manually
or as the result of a malfunction. The engine
will then not be switched off automatically
when the vehicle stops.
i If the ECO start/stop function is deactivated
due to a malfunction, ECO symbol ç
flashes for approximately 10 seconds and
then remains lit. In addition, indicator lamp ;
in ECO OFF button : remains continuously
lit.
